Rep. David Reis Receives Pro-Business Award from Illinois Chamber of Commerce

July 14, 2010

Olney, IL.…tate Representative David Reis (R-Ste. Marie) was honored with the Illinois Chamber of Commerce Champion of Free Enterprise Award on Thursday for his ongoing legislative record of supporting the business community.

“I am honored to be recognized by the Illinois Chamber of Commerce and proud to accept their Champion of Free Enterprise Award,” Rep. Reis said. “Supporting businesses and fostering job growth has always been my top priority in office. As a freshman lawmaker, I earned the Freshman of the Year Award from the Chamber and have continued that same drive for business development through today.”

Rep Reis continued, “Unfortunately, today’s economy and Chicago politics have crippled job growth in our state. Every lawmaker must stand up for the business community and be a strong voice for thousands of jobless looking for work. Serving as your State Representative, I am committed to keeping employers in our state, attracting new industries and creating jobs in our communities.”

The Chamber’s ratings are based on legislators’ votes on the key business legislation of the 96th General Assembly. The votes in the Senate and House are selected based on their impact on the business community and, to a lesser extent, the gap between opposing views on the issue. The votes are weighted accordingly.

“The Illinois Chamber of Commerce is proud to recognize legislators that have made special contributions in the defense of free enterprise, and the furtherance of economic opportunities for Illinoisans,” said Todd Maisch, the Chamber’s Vice President for Government Affairs. “Legislators with Illinois Chamber ratings averaging 85% or better over the previous three General Assemblies have demonstrated their commitment to legislation that frees the entrepreneurial spirit and qualify for the award.”

Reis continued, “Lets face it, getting Illinois back on track means creating jobs for citizens in our state. Businesses should look to Illinois as the premiere location to base their companies, offer competitive benefits and wages, and be confident Illinois lawmakers will not burden them with job-killing taxes and regulations.”
