State Senator John O. Jones (R-Mt. Vernon) and State Representative David Reis (R-Ste. Marie) were joined by over 20 other legislators and they addressed a standing-room only crowd of SWCD officials from across Illinois. The lawmakers gathered to urge the Governor to release more than $11.74 million in funds that support local soil and water conservation district (SWCD) operations.

Mr Fathery was recently named the Illinois Teacher of the Year for 2007 and testified to the committee about his visits to school districts throughout the state.

The Alfred and Wilma Lybarger family farm was recgonized this past weekend by the Illinois Department of Agriculture as an Illinois Centennial Farm. State Representative David Reis made the presentation to the family at their home in rural Richland County.

Rep Reis joins Rep Ron Stephens during a house floor debate drawing attention to the dubious distinction that Illinois is now ranked as having the worst funded public pension system in America. Republicans hope the protest will bring all parties to the table and end the practice of raiding the states pension system in order to pay for more pork barrel spending in Chicago.
Representative Reis joined House Minority Leader Tom Cross and other Illinois Republican legislators at a press conference opposing Governor Blagojevich's plan to fund a new capital bill by placing keno gambling machines in bars and restaurants in Illinois. Due to solid opposition posed by House Republicans, the Governor pulled the keno proposal off of the table.

108th District State Rep. David Reis recently toured the Wabash Mine Holding Company coal mine near Keensburg in support of SB90. Reis-Committee: State Representative David Reis (R-Ste Marie) recently presented to the Illinois House Agriculture and Conservation Committee on HB 340. This measure provides that the waiting period for withholding delivery of a firearm after application for its purchase has been made does not apply to the transfer of an operable firearm in exchange for another operable firearm. It passed out of committee 15-0-0.
Reis – Walters: “108th District Rep. David Reis (left) met with John Walters, Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, following Thursday morning’s hearing on HB407. Walters testified against the proposal that would allow the medicinal use of marijuana in Illinois. The bill, filed by a Chicago Democrat, provides that a person who has been diagnosed by a physician as having a debilitating medical condition can be given a registry identification card by the Department of Human Services that permits them to possess no more than 12 cannabis plants and two and one-half ounces of usable cannabis.”
