State of the State Reaction - Reis Focused on Improving Economy and Growing Jobs

Springfield…State Representative David Reis says he was glad to hear an optimistic tone taken by Governor Bruce Rauner during the Governor’s fourth State of the State address during a joint meeting of the legislature on Wednesday.

Rep. Reis and Senator Dale Righter talk with colleagues prior to the
start of Governor Rauner's State of the State address on Wednesday.
"The Governor took this opportunity to address all Illinoisans with an optimistic voice,” Reis said. He struck the right note from the beginning when he worked to strike an optimistic tone.

The Governor rightly pointed out that Illinois is the home of some extraordinary individuals that have built our great State. As a farmer myself, I have to say it was refreshing to hear the Governor mention our rich agricultural history and the great impact that our farmers have made on the entire world.

Agriculture is still our number one industry and we need to be supportive of our farmers.”

Reis was also pleased to hear that the Governor is still prioritizing changes to Illinois’ economic and political policies to make the State more attractive to job providers.

“Its clear to me and to everyone that we need fairly drawn legislative maps, we need ethics and procurement reform, and we need workers’ compensation reforms to make our state more competitive with our neighbors. The Chicago Democrats that control the legislature, especially Speaker Madigan, have obstructed and delayed and refused to negotiate on these important changes that need to be made. We must change our political and economic climates so that our highly skilled and educated work force can return to work at good paying jobs. We need to be thinking pro-growth all the way,” Reis said.
